During the War of Chaos at the end of the Second Era, the Demon King Gorgonwrath created a rift between the Demonic Dimension and our own dimension. Gorgonwrath led his demonic armies through the rift and commenced a savage assault on Earth. The Demon Horde ravaged their way across half of the planet before their advance was halted by an Alliance of the free races of Earth. The leaders of the Alliance knew that the key to defeating the demonic invasion was to defeat Gorgonwrath, as it was only fear of his brutal leadership that held the demon armies together. The Alliance also realised that it would be almost impossible to slay Gorgonwrath in combat. The Demon King had used his demonic magic to absorb the power of all the foes he had slain and in doing so had become exceptionally powerful. His invulnerability, strength and speed were phenomenal. The leaders of the Alliance formulated a plan to trap Gorgonwrath’s immortal spirit. The most skilful Dwarven bladesmith was tasked to forge a mighty sword that would serve as a prison for Gorgonwrath’s spirit and siphon his demonic powers into specific magics that could be utilised by the wielder of the blade. He was assisted by 100 of the most powerful mages from the Alliance, who laid potent and cunning enchantments upon the blade. When the blade was completed, it was studied by the mages and they determined that despite their best efforts, the enchantments within the blade would not be strong enough to imprison Gorgonwrath for all eternity. The wisest and most powerful of all mages, the Dragon Skilandracos, provided the solution. A unique set of guard and pommel mounts were forged and enchanted to house the spirits of two Dragons. The power within the Dragon’s immortal spirits would be sufficient to ‘lock’ the magical prison created within the sword. The mighty Skilandracos and his mate Illandracos volunteered for this task. With heavy hearts, the Alliance completed the sword in a sombre ceremony that saw the deaths of Skilandracos and Illandracos as their spirits were drawn from their bodies and forged into the sword. The Human King, himself a powerful warlock, then took up the sword and met Gorgonwrath on the field of battle. Gorgonwrath did not fear the blade, because he knew that even if the blade could pierce his supernaturally tough hide, he would heal from any wound almost instantaneously. As the sword was thrust into Gorgonwrath, the powerful enchantments seized his spirit as one contingent spell after another siphoned his immortal being into the sword. As the last spell fell into place and Gorgonwrath’s spirit was imprisoned within the blade, his body fell to the ground, dead. With their leader defeated, the demon armies fell into disarray and were eventually banished back to their own dimension.

The sword is named ‘Quickened Fury’. It is magically strengthened and sharpened and is able to cut through any substance. The wielder’s mind is filled with demonic rage that allows them to ignore pain, protects against mental attacks and provides an unnatural clarity and speed of thought. The blade’s most powerful enchantment utilises the Demon King’s magic and drains the power of any being the blade cuts into and siphons it to the wielder permanently in the form of enhanced vitality, durability, strength and speed.
